Learn how to use a pottery wheel

  • Started 28 May
  • 180 British pounds
  • Station Road Didcot

Service Description

On this six week course course you’ll learn how to use a pottery wheel. All tools, materials and equipment are supplied. You'll have your own wheel and with a limit of five people per class you'll get plenty of guidance from the teacher. Beginners and improvers are welcome. This class meets every Tuesday evening 6 - 8 pm. It runs for five weeks, breaks for a week (so your pots can be fired) and then returns for a final week of glazing and decorating. Course starts Tuesday 28th May 2024, 6-8 pm. No class Tuesday 2nd July drying / firing time. Last class Tuesday 9th July, glazing 6-8 pm. £180 per course. You'll learn throwing and turning. Each class ends with a review where you and the teacher will critique your pots and designate the worst ones to the tin re-cycling bucket as demonstrated by Keith on The Great Pottery Throwdown! Unlike the Throwdown this is a non-competitive class with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Fired pots never biodegrade, so we only fire the very best work each student produces and we limit this to three pieces. Pots require two firings each, so this also helps us manage kiln firing costs. There is no class on week 6. This allows your 3 final pots to be dried and fired in time for your final glazing and decorating class. Students must be aged 16 years or older and the last fifteen minutes of each class will be spent clearing up. Please bring an apron - it can be messy! Please note if you miss a class, we do not offer refunds or replacement classes as the teacher is being booked specifically for these times. Any unclaimed work left for over four weeks after the course has ended will be thrown away. Entrance is from Lydalls Road (the back of the SOHA Building). Look out for the Makespace signs. The pottery studio is on the ground floor so feel free to tap on the window and we'll let you in.
