Service Description
On this six week course you’ll learn how to use a pottery wheel. All tools, materials and equipment are supplied. Everyone has their own wheel and with just five people per class there is plenty attention from the teacher who is a professional potter. The class meets every Tuesday evening for five weeks, breaks for one week and then returns for a final week of glazing and decorating. You'll learn throwing and turning. Each class ends with a review where you and the teacher will critique your pots and designate the worst ones to the tin re-cycling bucket as demonstrated by Keith on The Great Pottery Throwdown! Unlike the Throwdown this is a non-competitive class with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Fired pots never biodegrade, so we only fire the very best work each student produces and we limit this to three pieces. Pots require two firings each, so this also helps us manage kiln firing costs. At the end of the fifth week we will break for a week to allow your 3 final pieces to thoroughly dry before we fire them in time for your final glazing and decorating class. The course is for beginners or improvers aged 16 years or older and the last fifteen minutes of each class will be spent clearing up. Please note if you miss a class, we do not offer refunds or replacement classes as the teacher is being booked specifically for these times. Any unclaimed work left for over four weeks after the course has ended will be given to charity. Course starts Tuesday 5th September 2023 6-8 pm. No class Tuesday 10th October Last class 17th October 6-8 pm £180 per course. Please bring an apron - it can be messy! Entrance via red Makespace door on Lydalls Road, look out for the Makespace signs.
